Vastu dosha check: how to spot the common ones in your plan

A Vastu dosha is a placement that traditional texts regard as unfavourable, such as a toilet in the north-east. It is not a curse and not a fault in you. You can spot the commonest ones by checking five spots on your plan, and most can be softened without any construction.

What is a Vastu dosha?

The word means a flaw or imbalance in the texts' scheme. In Vastu it simply marks a room or element sitting where most texts do not prefer it. It says nothing about the people living there.

A plan with one or two doshas is normal. Almost no real home matches every preference.

Which doshas are commonly flagged?

Per the app's rule data, these are the placements marked as defects most often.

Take them one at a time, and note which you can change by moving objects.

  • A toilet or bathroom in the north-east, south-west or the centre.
  • A kitchen or stove in the north-east or south-west.
  • A main entrance in the south-west, south-east or south.
  • A staircase in the north-east or the centre.
  • A master bedroom in the north-east or south-east.

How seriously should I take a dosha?

Treat a dosha as a prompt to review, in proportion. A toilet in the north-east is a bigger flag than a bed angled slightly off. Texts and practitioners disagree on how much each one matters, and the claimed effects are traditional beliefs and not established facts.

Do not decide on a home from one dosha. Legal, structural and practical qualities come first. Do not spend money on anything pushed with fear.

What should I do after finding a dosha?

List the doshas you found, then try the non-structural fixes: move the object, change the use of a space, improve light and ventilation, tidy and declutter. Many people stop there.

For anything structural, ask an architect or engineer and the local authority.

If a room does not match

These need no building work.

  • Move the stove toward the south-east of the kitchen.
  • Keep a north-east toilet door closed and the room ventilated.
  • Declutter the north-east and the centre of the home.
  • Light and tidy an entrance that cannot change.
  • Ask an engineer before any structural change.

In VastuLive

VastuLive reads the rooms, entrance and North marking on your plan, then reports a score and a finding for each room, with the rule and evidence behind it. It can offer optional non-structural suggestions.

What does Vastu dosha mean?

How serious is one dosha?

Treat one dosha as a prompt to review, in proportion to what it is. A toilet in the north-east is a bigger flag than a bed angled slightly off. Many homes have one or two, and the claimed effects are traditional beliefs. Legal, structural and practical qualities of a home come first.

Do I need a remedy for every dosha?

No. Start with simple, free steps such as moving an object, improving light and ventilation, and decluttering, and many people stop there. Ignore anything pushed with fear, and do not spend money on it. For anything structural, ask a qualified architect or engineer and the local authority before acting.

Can I check doshas myself?

Yes, by checking the five spots in the table on this page against your plan. Find North first, since a wrong North shifts every result. The app also checks them from an uploaded, photographed or sketched plan and shows the rule and evidence behind each finding, which you can compare with the table by hand.
